Coming to a theater near you … Yiddish policemen
Variety reported yesterday that Columbia Pictures acquired the screen rights to Michael Chabon‘s “The Yiddish Policemen’s Union.”
And, perhaps more exciting from a consumer’s point of view, the novel will be transferred to the big screen by the team of Joel and Ethan Coen (“The Coen Brothers”) and producer Scott Rudin.
According to Variety, “The Yiddish Policemen’s Union” is the third Chabon novel that Rudin has brought to the movie masses. The first was Chabon’s 1995 novel “Wonder Boys.” Rudin also is developing a Paramount-based adaptation of Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 2001 novel, “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.” Chabon worked on the script for that film, which has been stuck in pre-production for several years.
For more on Chabon, see my review of “The Yiddish Policemen’s Union.”
I read the book, it will be interesting to see how the film delivers. I try not to compare books to films, and try to view the film on its own merit.
