These authors have reason to give thanks
There were quite a few Jewish Literary Review alums who made the New York Times list of “100 Notable Books of the Year.”
The Times mentioned several books previously discussed or reviewed on this blog, including Michael Chabon‘s “The Yiddish Policemen’s Union,” Dalia Sofer’s “The Septembers of Shiraz,” and Philip Roth‘s “Exit Ghost.” Some of the other books that would be familiar to readers of Jewish Literary Review would be Ehud Havazelet’s “Bearing The Body,” Nathan Englander’s “The Ministry of Special Cases,” Shalom Auslander’s “Foreskin’s Lament,” James L. Kugel’s “How to Read the Bible,” and Saul Friedländer’s “The Years of Extermination: Nazi Germany and the Jews, 1939-1945.”
One week from today, the Times will release on the Web its list of the “10 Best Books of 2007.”
I was surprised not to see Amy Bloom’s “Away” on the list. What other books to you think the Times missed?
I think that these two books were missed:
Fiction: The Pale of Settlement, by Margot Singer.
Non-Fiction: Einstein, by Walter Isaacson.
thanks, JewWishes.
something got messed up with the HTML but i can see that you meant to say these two books were missing:
“The Pale of Settlement,” by Margot Singer
and
“Einstein: His Life and Universe,” by Walter Isaacson
Two good choices, JewWishes.
By the way, if you want to include a link to a Web page, you can just type the www address and this blogging software should automatically hyperlink it. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how to make the link say one thing and the web address something else. Will let you know if I find out how.
Good grief on the HTML!
Thanks for the update, Steve.
sher thing. they were two good books.
